A plan you can read in one page.
Two CFP professionals, forty families, zero commissions. We write the fee down before the first meeting and the plan down after the fourth.
The chart is an illustration of what planning tends to do, not a forecast of anything.
The firm
We charge a flat fee for advice. We do not sell products, take commissions or get paid by a fund company. That is the whole business model, and it fits on a line.
- 40families, by choice. We stop at fifty.
- $0in commissions, ever. Our fee is the only money we make.
- 4meetings from hello to a finished plan.
- 2CFP professionals, one of them also a CPA.
What we do
Five things, each with a price next to it.
- Retirement planningA date, a number and the order to draw accounts down. Social Security timing included.$4,800 to $9,600 a year
- Equity compensationRSUs, ISOs, ESPP and tender offers. Exercise windows and the AMT, in plain words.$3,600 to $7,200
- Tax planningRoth conversions, bunching, the harvest in December. It starts in January, not April.$2,400 to $4,800
- Investment managementLow cost index portfolios, rebalanced on written rules. No stock picking.0.60% to 0.85% a year
- Estate coordinationYour plan and your attorney in one room. A beneficiary audit on every account.Included, or $1,800
How it works
Four meetings. Then a plan you can hold.
Most firms hand you a 60 page binder. Ours is one page, because a plan nobody reads is not a plan.
-
01Week 1 / 90 minutes
Discover
Every account, every paystub, the tax return, the stock plan documents and the thing you have never said out loud about money. We listen more than we talk.
- A one page net worth statement
- A list of the questions we will answer
- Nothing to sign
-
02Week 3 / 60 minutes
Model
We build the projection with your numbers, then break it on purpose: a layoff, a bad decade, a parent moving in. You see what holds and what does not.
- Three scenarios, side by side
- Your retirement gap, in dollars
- Tax picture for the next five years
-
03Week 5 / 60 minutes
Decide
The one page plan. Each line is a decision with a date and an owner. Some are yours, some are ours, a few belong to your attorney or your CPA.
- The one page plan, signed by both of us
- An action list with dates
- Account paperwork, pre-filled
-
04Week 8, then twice a year
Maintain
We check that the moves happened, then meet every spring and fall. Life changes, the plan changes, the page gets reprinted. Email and calls in between are included.
- Two scheduled reviews a year
- A tax projection every October
- Unlimited questions by email
Why flat
What 1% a year actually costs over 30 years.
A $1,500,000 portfolio, 6% a year before fees, 30 years. One advisor charges 1% of the balance. The other charges a flat $7,200 a year. Same portfolio, same market.
Try it
How big is your gap?
Six sliders, one honest number. It is the same first pass we run in the Model meeting, minus the taxes, the inflation and the hour of questions.
- Projected at retirement
- $2.69M
- What the target needs
- $3.00M
- Gap
- $310K
Estimates only. Compounds monthly at the return you picked, ignores inflation, taxes and fees, and treats the target as 25 times your yearly income. A real plan replaces every one of those shortcuts.
A gap is not a verdict. Most of the ones we see close with two or three decisions: a later date, a Roth conversion window, a cheaper portfolio. How we close them.
The office
One table. No trading screens.
Suite 300 is upstairs on North Santa Cruz Avenue, above the bakery. There is one long table, a kettle and a printer for the one page. Nobody here watches a ticker during the day, because nothing we do depends on what the market did before lunch.
We work with people within about twenty minutes of the office: Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell, Cupertino, the west side of San Jose. Most meetings are in person. Video works for the maintenance reviews once the plan is built.
Notes on money
Short notes, no newsletter.
Client words
What people say after meeting four.
The first advisor gave us a binder. These two gave us a page and a date. We retired on the date.
I had four years of RSUs sitting in one stock because I was scared of the tax. Daniel showed me the actual number. It was smaller than the fear.
I asked what they made on the funds. Nothing. I asked twice. Still nothing. That is why we moved.
Reviews on this demo are placeholders. All nine, with the disclosure.
